Nick Mason's expertise

Nick is a corporate lawyer who specialises in commercial, employment and immigration work. Prior to joining Pitt & Moore in early 2010, Nick was an Employment Relations Adviser at the State Services Commission in Wellington. There he was involved in union negotiations and change management issues. This experience means Nick understands how various organisations work and the impact change can have on employees.

Nick works on a wide range of commercial issues, ranging from commercial property and leasing to liquidation.  He is experienced with drafting and interpreting commercial contracts and agreements, and undertaking commercial negotiations on behalf of clients.  Nick aims to have matters resolved in as timely and cost-efficient manner as possible.

Nick works with clients on all employment issues including reviewing and preparing employment agreements, disciplinary matters, restraints of trade and as an advocate, when necessary. He has mediation experience and has appeared in the Employment Relationship Authority. Nick works with employers and employees, so he understands your issues, no matter what your role. His focus is on getting the best result, expediently, so you can move forward.

When advising clients on immigration issues, Nick helps to smooth the process of changing their immigration status. It can be a complex process and understanding what Immigration New Zealand is looking for is crucial. Nick will do all he can to keep your application moving forward and make things as easy as possible for you.

Favourite tip about the region

Nick is originally from Hawke’s Bay and has moved to Nelson after 10 years in Wellington. The similarities between Hawke’s Bay and Nelson are what he most enjoys – the climate, the focus on local wine and the quality and abundance of fresh produce.
