Marty Logan

Marty is a very experienced commercial litigator having practiced in Wellington, London and Christchurch before moving to Nelson in 2000. He has appeared in all Courts up to Court of Appeal level, as well as appearing before a number of specialist tribunals.

After moving to Nelson he was a Partner in a specialist maritime and fisheries law practice for ten years. Since coming to Pitt & Moore, Marty has continued with his maritime work but is also active in a number of other dispute resolution areas. Particular areas of interest include contractual disputes, employment law (with particular emphasis on health and safety), construction disputes, regulatory offending, trust and succession disputes, leasing issues, intellectual property, Maori land law and immigration law.

Marty focuses on getting a result for his clients as quickly as possible without getting bogged down in the litigation process. In his dispute resolution practice he recognises the strengths and weaknesses of the Court system and uses alternatives such as mediation and arbitration to settle disputes where appropriate.

Marty has spent the past ten years developing his maritime and fisheries law practices. His specialist knowledge and his fascination with both these areas mean he is well equipped to deal with the wide range of unique issues organisations and individuals operating in these industries face. He has built up strong relationships with lawyers overseas, enabling his clients to resolve international issues quickly and cost-effectively.

Favourite tip about the region

Marty recommends heading out to Mt Arthur, a special place with stunning views, in the Kahurangi National Park.
