What is the New Zealand Active Investor Plus Visa?
The Active Investor Plus Visa, informally known as the Golden Visa, allows eligible investors to obtain New Zealand residence by committing at least NZD $5 million in acceptable investment options.
Acceptable investments may include approved managed funds, direct investments in New Zealand businesses, or qualifying property developments, depending on the category selected. The visa is designed to attract investors who contribute to New Zealand’s economic development.
Foreign nationals who obtain residence through the Active Investor Plus Visa may also be eligible to buy or build homes in New Zealand valued at NZD $5 million or more.
Active Investor Plus Visa investment requirements
Investment requirements vary depending on the selected category.
The growth category generally requires investment in approved managed funds and/or eligible New Zealand businesses.
The balanced category allows broader investment options, including certain equities, bonds, property and philanthropic investments.
Applicants must obtain approval in principle before committing funds. Investment structures must comply with Immigration New Zealand requirements.
Residence and physical presence requirements
Residence requirements differ by category.
The growth category generally requires a minimum stay of 21 days in New Zealand over a three-year period.
The balanced category generally requires a minimum stay of 105 days over a five-year period, with potential reductions for higher investment levels.
