So what happens next?

Pitt & Moore will respond to you promptly by providing you with our Letter of Engagement as well as other information required by the Law Society, including our current charge-out rates. We will provide information to you about how to pay for the appointment.

Once you’ve read through the documents and if you’re happy to proceed you will email to us the signed Acceptance Page of our Terms and Conditions together with proof of payment and we will contact you promptly to set up an appointment.

By law, we’re required to provide you with a Letter of Engagement and have our terms and conditions accepted before starting any work.

  • You may be eligible for a Partner Visa if you are married to, or in a de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. 

    You must demonstrate that your relationship is genuine, continuing and long-term. This can be complex, particularly where couples live apart due to work or family commitments. 

    A Prospective Marriage (Fiancé) Visa allows you to enter Australia to marry your prospective spouse. It is a temporary visa valid for nine months. If you marry during that period, you may then be eligible to apply for a Partner Visa.

  • There are several visitor visa options allowing stays ranging from 3 to 12 months, including sponsored streams for those visiting family. 

    If you are travelling for business purposes, the appropriate visa will depend on your passport, intended duration of stay and the purpose of travel — such as attending conferences, meetings, negotiations or exploring commercial opportunities. 

    In some cases, you may be eligible to apply online for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or eVisitor visa.

    There are multiple pathways for working in Australia on a short, medium or long-term basis. 

     

    The former Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482 visa was replaced on 7 December 2024 by the Skills in Demand (SID) Subclass 482 visa, which comprises three streams. Visas may be granted for up to four years. 

    Transitional provisions apply to applications lodged prior to that date. 

  • Australia’s SkillSelect programme is a points-based system designed to attract highly skilled individuals under 45 years of age for permanent migration. 

    Applicants must submit an expression of interest demonstrating they meet the applicable points test and can only apply for a visa once invited by the Department. 

  • Family visa categories (including Parent, Child, Remaining Relative and Carer visas) allow Australian citizens, permanent residents and, in some cases, New Zealand citizens to sponsor eligible family members. 

    Given the significant costs, lengthy processing times and strict eligibility requirements, early advice is essential before proceeding. 

  • An Australian permanent visa allows you to remain in Australia indefinitely, but the associated travel facility is valid only for a defined period. 

    If you have spent extended periods outside Australia, you may need to apply for a Resident Return Visa before travelling. 

  • Certain specialist entry visas allow individuals in specific professions to enter Australia where other work visas are not suitable.

  • Australian citizenship is the final step for those intending to live permanently in Australia. 

    There are several pathways to citizenship, including descent, adoption, conferral and resumption. Each pathway has distinct eligibility requirements.
